I plan on adding a portable air conditioner to my rooftop tent next year and possibly a heater if I add more winter camping to my schedule. My future plans include a trailer, but at this point I drive about 15-20K miles every summer and the gas bill would be killer towing anything.

I don’t have a trailer but I’m an avid camper, and spend each summer road tripping and camping in my rooftop tent every night. I just picked up my 2021 Powerboost Lariat a few weeks ago, it was a pain to find a Lariat with 7.2KW Propower for some reason. The Ford app sucks and wouldn’t let me monitor power draw remotely.Ĭurious about other people’s experiences with PPO. It would be nice to have turn PPO on/off with remote start on the key fob.

It freaks my out having the truck on and running that long. Didn’t have to bring/move a generator, which means I had more space and payload for other things and I didn’t throw out my back.ĭownsides: Truck needs to be on and running for PPO to work.

Engine only kicked on a couple of times per hour for a few minutes to top off the truck’s batteries. In my experience, there were two big benefits to using PPO over a standard inverter generator: 1. Normal power draw with AC running seemed to be between 1500-1800 watts, and 300 watts with no AC. Peak power draw 3000 watts and occurred on Day 1 probably to get trailer and refrigerator cooled down. The PPO caused no issues with the trailer’s electrical system. While using PPO, I made sure to have the truck’s AC and lights off and infotainment screen black.Īt departure on Day 5 we still had over 3/4 tank of gas. PPO was also used to keep the house battery topped off, light microwave use, and supplement power to the refrigerator and outlets. Ran the trailer’s AC on auto the entire time to keep inside temps in the mid 70’s. Had PPO turned on and delivering power to the trailer approximately 10 hours each day (daylight hours). Had the trailer connected to the PPO 240v/30a receptacle with a L14-30P to TT-30R adapter.

Temps were in the high 80’s and mid 90’s during that time. Trailer has a 12v refrigerator, 80 watt solar panel, and 15,000 btu AC unit. Went camping in a 30 foot travel trailer this past week for four nights. Just a regular dude with a truck that happens to have an onboard generator. Disclaimer: I have very limited knowledge and experience with electricity and electrical systems. Haven’t been able to find a lot of details on real life user experience with the PB’s optional onboard generator, so I thought I’d share.
